Question Using an XPS 15 with a 21:9 Monitor

I'm trying to connect my 9570 XPS 15 to my 21:9 LG ultrawide over HDMI. When I switch to just using the LG monitor in windows display settings, the options to change the resolution are grayed out, and I am stuck using my monitor at 1920x1080 with black bars on the side instead of 2560x1080. Am I missing something here?

You might need to update the GPU drivers to get the full resolution.

You're stuck with black side bars cause your monitor is not the standard 16:9 resolution.

Same happens with smartphones. Lots of phones these days come with 19:9 screen and it's awkward to watch videos on those because you don't get the video in full screen.
