Using Beats Solo 2 on Laptop as Headphones and Mic

I have a pair of Beats Solo 2 that I want to use as a headset on my Dell Laptop. The Beats have a four-pin connector with the cord having the microphone. My laptop has only one port.... a headset port. From what I know(which isn't much) a headset port should support headphones and a microphone. When i plug in my Beats, my laptop only recognizes the headphones. I have been trying to figure this issue out for weeks. I hope someone could help me! thanks!

Actually many have ports that will only notice a headset. It is a flaw in many newer systems. Even ones with so called single input/output ports. It can be very frustrating.
