Hey everyone,

I'm not really sure where to put this question, but it involves computer games and a mac. Please don't make this a mac vs pc thing, or a mac bashing thread. I'm just here for advice. :)

I currently have a late 2009 imac, and would like to use bootcamp to play Guild Wars 2.

Is this possible, and if not, is there any way to upgrade it so this could be done?

Here are my specs:

Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

I would bootcamp with Windows 7 for this game.
I know lots of you would suggest getting a pc, but I don't have the money right now, and would prefer to stick with only one computer.

As a side note, can any of the new macbook pros be upgraded? I've heard they are more accessible.

I'd just like to know the cheapest way I would be able to play guild wars 2. The most money I am willing to spend at this point it $200.
If this means that I cannot play it on my current system please tell me.

Thanks for your help.

your gfx are just above minimum requirements. as its an intel based machine you may just want to dual boot with windows 7 rather than use bootcamp. you have enough memory to do it your way so that shouldn't be an issue. youy look set to try it but i think your cpu will be a problem if you choose to use bootcamp and not just dual boot.
your pc is a mac only in name so theres no reason why you shopuldnt be able to dual boot win 7... it doesnt have a G series cpu which was the only reason you couldnt use windows on a mac.

Thanks, sorry if I didn't explain myself very well. I'm don't know much about computer systems and such.

So what you're saying is that I can install Windows 7 and create a partitian on my hardrive to run GW2?

Do you think I will have any troubles running the game (lag, etc.), or will it be capable of running it at min settings without any issues?
I just want to make sure it will work before I buy win 7 for $90 and GW2 fo $60.

Yes, you can install Windows 7 on a different partition. However, there is a problem. Your graphics card is way below system requirements for Guild Wars 2. Depending on form factor of your mac, you might be able to upgrade to a cheap graphics card for $50 that will be able to play GW2. Could you show us a photo of your computer?

The only place I see that could be opened for upgrading is a small (around 1/2'' wide and 8'' long) vent area on the bottom of the mac, which is pretty hard to get to. My computer looks the same as every iMac, which can be viewed at Apple's website.

I have heard that it is possible to open up the back metal pannel somehow. From the web searches I have done it doesn't seem like you can upgrade much on a mac, which is a shame.

If there is a possible way I wouldn't feel comfortable upgrading it myself, are there stores where I could pay someone to do the upgrade?

OH, so iMac is a PC and Monitor in one place?

It will be hard to upgrade it if it's possible at all. I'm not very experienced of doing that so I cannot say. Anyway, I think that there are always technicians who are willing to do that for a small fee in every town.
