Using domestic wipes to remove thermal paste?

You don't want a microfibre mate.
Yes domestic wipes are fine , look for lint-free ones (most should be) though do they don't leave tiny particles.

On another note , if anyone in your house wears specs , glasses cleaning cloths work exceptionally well.

You can use a clean coffee filter and a cleaning solution. I use Arctic Silver Arcticlean for cleaning the CPU and Heat Sink of old paste. One set of bottles will last though many CPU/Heat Sink cleanings. It works much quicker and requires less effort then Isopropyl alcohol.
