Using EKWB backplate with stock cooler

I have an 1150 stock cooler that I want to try out to see if some of my ram slots are working or I just put the waterblock on wrong - can I use the EKWB CPU waterblock back plate with it, or do I need the actual stock back plate? Thank you!

what waterblock model and motherboard?

The motherboard is Asus Maximus Hero VII and the waterblock is the EVO Supremacy from EKWB
