I'm wondering how i can get ethernet in my room, a floor above the router. The wifi is significantly slower up here, and I really want to use ethernet. I have seen some wifi extenders that you can plug and ethernet cable into, but are those any good? i really want 5g ethernet that wont be slow.

Solution
yeah a tad bit out of my budget. Im looking for something like max 60 bucks
You want magic, on a low end budget...

We're just saying..a full WiFi thing won't be any more powerful than what you have now, unless your current WiFi adapter is junk.

A WiFi extender is not that.
You get ethernet by running a Cat5e cable. 330 feet max.
Secondarily, powerline or MOCA.

Adding a different WiFi thing will probably do little except make your wallet lighter.

if i buy a wifi card can that says 3000mbps, and when I do a internet speed test on my computer rn is 220 mps, when I build my new pc, will it actually achieve those speeds?
  1. What do you pay the ISP for?
  2. What do you get when hardwired directly to the router?

Unless you're in the same room with direct line of sight between the router and PC, WiFi is almost never as fast as an ethernet cable.

I suspect you will see very little difference unless the current wifi card is real garbage.

That is a wifi6 adapter it will not be able to use any of the features of wifi6 unless you also have a wifi6 router. It will drop back to 802.11ac and since it is only 2 antenna it will run the same as any other 802.11ac units with 2 antenna.

Do you have any other cable outlets upstairs near the room with your computer?

What do you use for wifi now? If it's one of those little USB dongles then yes that internet wifi adapter would be better.

You could also use powerline adapters, they make wifi extenders that run from powerline.
