Using GPU and Onboard Video Together?

Hi all,

I have an nVidia GTX 1070 that I run a monitor and Oculus Rift from. This leaves me with only DisplayPorts that I have no use for. My motherboard is ASUS.

Because I have a small desk, I dusted off an old small VGA monitor that I thought I might be able to run off of the motherboard's onboard video, which so far hasn't worked. I only planned to use the VGA monitor as a sort of HUD, where I'd play a game on my main screen, and have a website open on the other.

I've looked around the internet, including here, to find out if it's at all possible to use both a GPU and onboard video together, but haven't found any real definitive answer.

So, is it possible? And if so, how?

When you install a graphics card, the integrated GPU is automatically disabled to avoid resource conflicts.

However, the BIOS on some motherboards does support simultaneous use of both GPUs, so you''ll have to check what graphics options are available in the BIOS configuration. Be aware that this is only supported on some motherboards.

If that option is not supported then you must connect both monitors to the GTX 1070, either by using an appropriate adapter for the old VGA monitor or by buying another monitor which has a DisplayPort.

It seems that my motherboard IS capable of using both GPU and onboard. I did a little more research and found the option in BIOS under System Agent Configuration. In that menu there's an option "IGPU Multi Monitor". It was disabled, but after enabling it, it still didn't activate the second monitor. I tried changing the Primary Display option from PCI to Auto and that didn't make a difference. I did, however, set it to CPU and the second monitor did turn on and worked fine, but of course my main display did not. I also went into Windows display options, clicked Detect, and it still isn't recognizing it.
