Using GPU as Amplifier Audio Source

Hello. I've recently built a Crack 1.1 OTL amplifier for my Sennheiser HD600s and was considering using my Gigabyte GTX 1080 as the audio source for it, since it has digital audio capabilities, and likely has better quality then my P8Z68-V PRO GEN3 motherboard's audio. Thing is, I'm not entirely sure how I could go about it. Since the 1080 only has HDMI and DP ports, I was thinking that getting a 2-end HDMI cable and DAC with audio input and RCA output to the amplifier would work. Can anyone confirm if this makes sense? Or should I go another way about this (if it's at all possible).

That sounds like a whole heck of a lot of effort and money for something that was never designed for that purpose. Why not just buy a dedicated sound card if you are worried about the audio quality? They don't cost that much.
