I hope I am writing this under the right section...

I am looking at purchasing a 3.5" HDD that has been pre-loaded with Hyperspin (retro gaming) that I was going to put in a caddy and plug this in to an intel I5 NUC.

Then the NUC would connect to my Smart TV in order for me to play the games.

By doing this, would there be any lag at all? considering the program/games are not on the NUC hard drive?

Solution
Well, USB 3.0 is about 1/5 the speed of a Sata hard drive, BUT retro games don't really have much data to transfer anyways, so it should be fine. But anything new will probably have some loading issues.
