Using laptop as a desktop

I would say no. I do that. But it's a good idea to run it on the battery for a little while every few weeks I'm told. I've also read that the best thing to do if you're not going to use the battery for a good while is to run it down to about 80% charge, then power off and remove it. That's the way to maximize its life. My two laptops (Toshiba and Dell) will run with the battery removed, I don't know if all laptops will.
