I am trying to use a 500GB usb WD elements portable hdd to install windows. I am using Linux mint 17 cinnamon x64 yada yada ha ha. When I enter into my boot menu I am able to see my drive aftert using YUMI to reformat and mount the ISO but I get an OS not found error after selected then a regular boot. I tried repairing the syslinux file for YUMI and nothing after uninstall/reinstall countless times. I am watching YUMI create the drive, all the file are there in the 500GB drive, and no boot. I know it's linux and im trying to boot, nuke the main drive, and install 7 ultimate. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hi

I believe you are trying to install windows on a PC currently with Linux on it

Use a live Linux cd or DVD or usb memory stick to remove all partitions on internal hard drive
If you have a usb DVD drive try that
If not available make usb drive wd or memory stick 8 GB bootable using microsoft program designed for this purpose
I know there a number of other programs which can do this but I prefer the microsoft program
It does not put a ISO on the usb drive but the files from the ISO

Finally do not use usb 3.0 port even though faster I believe it requires windows drivers to work correctly ( possibly in windows 8 but not 7)

To make a bootable windows drive you have to do some special preperation. YUMI and most other syslinux installers wont work.

Use this tool:
If you have access to a windows machine use Rufus or the Windows Usb tool.

If you are stuck on Linux and do not have access to a Windows machine you can use this tool:
