Question Using Meraki products UNMANAGED

Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to purchase various Meraki Networking products, including router (MX64) and wireless access point (MR34 and MR42), and ms220-8p 1g switch.

Now, I KNOW, these are MANAGED devices and need CLOUD subscription for full functionality... BUT, without subscription, could they be used with limited functionality? Like being controlled on LOCAL network (no access outside network without cloud), or to at the least use the 8-port switch, as just a regular unmanaged switch?

It's hard to get an answer on this, as Meraki forums ALL discourage this to ensure ppl PAY for cloud subscriptions.

I doubt it and that maybe why you get them very cheap. Device like this are only worth the metal recycle value unless you are willing to pay whatever yearly fee cisco wants. This is similar to security cameras the price is extremely cheap but they only work the vendors expensive central appliance.

Not sure you can get 8 port unmanned switch for $20. You can get AP that have many of the same features from ubiquiti. If you get them for free maybe but I would not even pay $1

I would never use a product that requires a internet connection and my configuration stored on some central server. No matter how much they claim the data is secure we know that is not true. Maybe they should say if it gets hacked you get 1 millions dollars per device but they know very well the possibility exists.
