Hello everyone,
So I was wondering if there was a way to increase the graphical performance of my Satellite L775, which has a Core i5 2430m. However, I can either upgrade to a faster 3rd gen processor, but the graphics will not be much better, or find an adapter to use with this laptop. So, I found one.
Here:Adapter
This adapter takes the PCIe slot on my laptop (Currently occupied by a Wireless card) and converts it to a X16 slot which I will use for a graphics card, such as my GTX 750ti. I am aware that there will be performance drops, and that I will have to use an external display, but will this work?

I also have a Pavilion DV4 with a bad display on it that I will likely slap a i7-740qm or something like that in it, and use this adapter since that laptop has TWO mini-PCIe slots. The only problem is that I think it uses the onboard graphics on the i3 330m that I have, which could be a problem.

I've never messed with something like this before, but yea, it should work if you have the PCIX1 slots available.
You'll also need some sort of external power supply to power it (it's powered by a SATA cable, or in other words a 4-pin connector)

Although I'd highly recommend looking more into the laptop it-self and seeing what that PCIX1 slot can do, if it can emit display through it etc, things like that. Cause most laptops tend to be designed with the parts having only 1 function only, and that's literally it, even the PCI slots themselves which is retarded but hey, that's laptops.

As for buying that specific one, I don't even know if you should. It has no reviews and the seller that seems to be selling it is 100% brand new. I'd highly recommend looking for another one, as the one you listed seems to likely be a scam of some sort.

Well, I also found this one: https://www.amazon.com/PCI-E-Express-Extension-Adapter-Riser/dp/B01FVPITN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497803523&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+pcie+to+pcie+adapter
It seems to have fairly decent reviews, and it would still work for a x16 graphics card because the end is cut off, although it will be running at x1 (I know, performance drop)
I also found this one: https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-External-PCI-Graphics-Card/dp/B00Q4VMLF6
This one is a little more than what I want to spend though...

I likely will be using a power supply to power the graphics card, so that is not a problem.
However, can anyone recommend one that has good reviews that is actually x16?

Don't get that X1, most GPU's require at least X16 or more type of slot to even work. That X1 slot won't work with any GPU at all.
Unless you get a X1/Mini PCI-E to X16 adapator, which even then I'm not sure if that'd work either.

Anyways, I found these if you wanna try them
https://www.amazon.com/WinnerEco-Extension-Cable-Adapter-Powered/dp/B06ZY75WGR/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1497838463&sr=8-8&keywords=USB+to+PCI+X16

Seller seems legit, he has 708 ratings so, yeah. No reviews on the product though.
(It's also powered by DC current which is strange for a X16 adapter, not sure how that'd work)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZY2R85P?m=A3JV1FMRJ9GCIF&ref_=v_sp_widget_detail_page
There's also this, but it's expensive. Has 6 of them though and it seems to have quite great reviews. I'd highly recommend getting this one over any of them (plus you get 6 of them so I mean yeah)

If anything, Always make sure you look at who's selling them and seeing what his ratings is. That's the only way you'll make sure you get a quality product, cause not many people seem to make these from the looks of it.

The second won't work, since it is a PCIe x1 to PCIe x16 converter, NOT a miniPCIe to PCIe X16 slot. I might try the first one. As for DC power, that is right, it would need power from a 12v rail for the 75w required by the graphics card, so that makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that there are no reviews on it, but I guess for $10 you can't really go wrong...

There isn't any reviews on it, but if you look at the person who is selling it (His amazon account) he has 708 ratings for all the things he sells.

Seems reputable, so yeah.
