Using monitor's headphone socket as well as Speakers?

I've got a pair of Benq monitors, with headphone sockets. Connected using HDMI, and if I go to sound settings ('Playback devices') I can get the audio to route to the monitor's headphone socket, only if I choose speakers and disable them completely. Then to get the main speakers to work I need to re-enable them. But What I'd like to do is to have both enabled, and both receiving sound at the same time, to save the hassle of going into settings all the time.

Any ideas?

Basically I work on my computer at home. Whenever I'm working late, or my toddler is asleep I like to mute the main speakers an go straight to headphones, but it's a pain having to go into settings and disable the speakers every time!

I'm using Windows 7. The Monitors are Benq V2200Eco-0. Graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. If any of that helps!

Thanks!

You can create a shortcut on your desktop that goes straight to the Sound device panel. You dont have to disable the speakers. Just right click the device you want the sound to come out of and then set as default device. I do that and once you get use to it its actually quite quick. I personally don't know if you can have both giving the exact same sound.

Thanks Zion. I did set the monitor (headphones) to default earlier and the sound didn't move over until I disabled the speakers for some reason. I've just tried now, and you are right, setting as default is all I need to do!

Thanks for the reply!

Not a problem. I've also had instances where it didn't move over. I guess it depends on the app or maybe its buggy with some apps etc. Also I know that you can set the sound device on some apps regardless of your default device.
