so my hard drive is dying, keeps just vanishing upon read/writing lots of data, comes back a few restarts later with even more health warnings in HDtune. i ordered HGST 4TB deskstar, but twice now amazon has sent me the deskstar NAS edition instead. Would it be ok to use it instead of the normal desktar drive, ill be using it mainly to store my games on. Would this work well or would i see shitty performance?

Not sure if your read the reviews on amazon? It looks like amazon is shipping out the NAS version since the seller of the non-NAS version is stripping out external harddrives and setting them as internal ones. When trying to RMA them HGST is giving them issues since the serial # comes back as and external drive.

Anyway i wouldnt worry about it. I run a 6TB Western Digital Red drive in my computer which is their NAS drive for all my games and i dont have any issues at all with it. Had it for right around a year now with 1.2TB of games installed on it.

this is the one i baught, no mention of anyone else getting the wrong item, but I did see some things about that on another HGST drive. Thanks for the info about using the drive though!
