I have a 1U supermicro with X10DRL-i motherboard https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/motherboard/X10DRL-i

Currently, one server magnetic HDD is connected on SATA III interface. I can attach a SSD drive like Samsung PRO850 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LF10KTO/ref=emc_b_5_t with SATA III interface to the motherboard.

However, I want to know if I can use an NVME SSD drive like https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-NVMe-512GB-MZ-V6P512BW/dp/B01LXS4TYB?
Definitely, I am not able to vertically insert the drive to the PCI slot.

Can somebody comment on that?

You could use a pcie riser card, 1u cabinets usually have 1 horizontal slot for a card, and then install an M2 adapter in that. They used to make a 1u M2 riser but I haven't seen one in a while.

BUT this motherboard can't boot from NVME, from what I've found, without a bios mod.
