Question Using only one RAM slot of 8gb instead of two RAM slots of 8GB ?

I have two identical Mid 2011 Mac Minis. The first Mac Mini has 16 GB Ram. I want to remove one 8 GB memoy stick and insert it into the second Mac Mini so that both will have only one slot of memory populated with 8 GB each. The memory modules are as per specifications as required for this mac. My concern is that whether both the macs will work with adequate performance with one dimm filled and the other dimm vacant or they require both memory slots to be filled ?

They should be able to work off of one slot populated but the system's ill not have ram working in dual channel mode.

Will it have noticable adverse effects if system does not use dual channel mode?
