Is it better to buy a decent GPU or to buy two lower end GPU's and use them together.

I was going to upgrade my r7 260x to a better GPU, but someone said it would be better to just buy another r7 260x and use both of them together.

Or, if it's that much better to use two GPU's instead of one, could I in theory buy two really low end GPU's, and use them together to play games

Solution
1 good GPU has many advantages. Higher end GPU's tend to have more memory and can run any game without compatibility issues or possible stuttering.
Crossfire/SLI is not always supported in games and even sometimes when it is, it can lead to a performance loss compared to a single card. There is also the issue multi-cards can have of microstutter, though this has been reduced a lot. These issues are not really worth it on a lower end GPU, but pairing 2 high-end GPU's can really amp up performance.

I run 2 cards that were upper mid-range but sometimes have to turn off the second GPU for better performance.

TLDR: If you have the money, get a single higher end GPU.
