Using slightly different recovery disk on Gateway

I have a Gateway DX4300 that came with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I see this model also came out with a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version later. I found a recovery disk online for this same model Gateway and have choices for either the Vista or 7. My question is if I were to buy the 7 version and run it will it work without issues even though my computer originally came with the Vista version? I'm just worried that if I use it it'll not want to activate windows because it originally came with Vista instead of 7, even though they're designed for the same model computer. Anyone know if it'll work?

Solution
you would still need a valid win 7 key for it to activate which you do not have. you have a vista key so you need to install vista or purchase a win 7 key to activate it.

just having a win 7 disk does not mean you have a license for it.

If you had a valid Retail license for Win 7 (which you won't have), you can download the install media for free from MS.

The license is what costs, not the 'disk'.

Thanks, I figured as much. Getting tired of Vista in recent months now that more and more things keep dropping support for it. I'll figure something out though. Thanks again.
