I currently use a 32" ViewSonic monitor connected to a set top box and PC to watch local TV AND stream movies from the internet. It works great. No gaming.

However, I would like a larger screen for watching streamed movies from across my living room and TV's are much less expensive than a larger monitor. Any recommendations for TV's that will work for what I want?

TV's aren't exactly perfect for text but there are workarounds to it in Windows OS. If you're going to be using the TGV from a distance, then yes, you're good to go but from my experience, I prefer computing on a monitor that's 2.5 feet away from my eyes.

Any recommendations for TV's that will work for what I want?
Where are you located? What is your budget? What is your preferred site for purchase? Make and model of your discrete GPU/motherboard/display output source?

It would help if you could define how far you will be from the screen. The SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) recommends a ratio range of 1.2 to 1.6 times the screen size for optimal viewing distance. For example that would be 78 to 104 inches away from a 65 inch screen. I have a 65 inch TV and I sit approx. 8 feet away. If you're going to be sitting closer than that a smaller screen would be okay. Or a larger screen if you're sitting further away than that. Depending on how much time you'll be spending not watching movies or TV programs you can set your computer display scale for a normal Windows screen and text at a larger size and still use it for normal computing. I have the computer hooked up to my TV set to a display scale of 300 percent for times when I'm using Windows apps. You can also adjust the text size in the Accessibility menu.

Affordable large monitors are available that are cost competitive with TVs. Going the TV route for a computer display comes with too many compromises and generally is not worth the hassle.

LG offers a 4k Smart Monitor in 42 inches, complete with WebOS for streaming and screen sharing, but it comes with drawbacks like a 60hz refresh rate. However, my preference is for their larger 48" OLED monitor.

Viewsonic has a nice 43" display with a 3ms response time, a good refresh rate, and HDR capability. Of the two large screens in the $500 price range, this is probably my favorite right now.

If you need more bang for your buck, then you may want to consider looking in to a projector.
