I have recently acquired a dual socket 775 motherboard that I wanted to stick 2 core 2 extremes into it. Right now it has a single xeon e5440 with 16 gb of ecc memory and a quadro fx1700. I am planning to upgrade to a gtx 1060 or a 1050ti but I wanted to know if using 2 of these core 2 extremes.

Solution
Short answer is no.

Long answer is your motherboard is socket 771 not 775, they didn't make dual socket 775 boards and the core 2 extremes do not support multi CPU configs. While you can mod socket 771 cpus to work in socket 775 boards, socket 775 cpus don't work in 771 boards.
