I purchased two DDR3 1600MHz kits, 4GB/kit, each kit has 2x2GB modules.
I have been getting sporadic BSODs and figured I had a bad memory module. I called Patriot; they said that I should reduce the clock to 1333MHz.
I asked why; here's what they said (no lie, this is a quote from the email):
"when you buy a kit of memory, that memory kit is tested and guaranteed at the rated spec. So if you get one 4GB kit 2x2GB at 1600MHZ it should run at the spec with no issues now if you get 2 kits you might run into some problems. That is why we also sell 8GB kits."
Does anyone out there buy this explanation? Does anyone agree that two kits, identical part numbers, shouldn't both run at spec if the motherboard/BIOS supports it? Does anyone think Patriot is trying to weasel out of exchanging my memory? There is NO PLACE ON THE PACKAGE where it says you can only use one kit at a time...
I asked them to open an RMA to let me trade in two 4GB kits for one 8GB kit... they refused.
Am I missing something?
