Question using USB 3.1 ports

I have two USB ports on the rear of may case and are part of the mother board. My computer desktop is an ASUS M32CD with a #H110-M/M32CD/DP_MB mother board. Neither work when I have plugged anything into them. Because of HHD problems and then reinstalls of the OS (Win 7 Pro), I have never used these ports. Do they use a different driver that may not be installed. They don't show at all on device manager.
