On one laptop I had put a folder on which contained all the necessary drivers and they were retained in a 'windows.old' image which was created during the install. No probs there as I could access the folder and find the missing drivers. However, I did a second laptop but had forgotten to put the drivers in a folder first. Now I have no internet drivers and worse the USB ports only recognise a mouse, not any USB storage devices.

There is no optical drive in this laptop, and regardless of BIOS settings and boot sequence, etc., the laptop will not recognise USB. I have even created a bootable USB flash drive which works in a PC and another laptop, but will not work on this wretched laptop. I have trawled through so many suggestions online, but they seem to always think that you have either an internal optical drive or working usb ports.

None of the drivers are on the laptop.

Just go and create live linux flash, copy drivers there from another pc, boot it up on you notebook and copy drivers directly to drive. If you cant boot up then either its your usb broken or you just don't know what you should be doing. If you don't see flash in boot devices, disable secure boot and enable legacy boot.
