Hi :)

I've recently changed internet providers (Virgin 50MB) and was wondering could I use a wireless wifi network card in my PC as well as a wifi extender to increase signal?

My PC is in my room and the router is about 5 meters away from my PC.

At the moment I've got an extender but it drops out on signal every now and then, would plugging an Ethernet cable from wired connection (motherboard) to extender help signal and speed?

Thanks

Router is in living room and my room is upstairs. Signal isn't that great for some reason, says about 36% average. I get a better signal from neighbours! But can't connect to theirs.

So would using a wireless card, picking up router signal and having extender plugged into wired connection improve signal/speed? I've had Virgin internet since Thursday.

Is there any possibility of running a Cat5e cable? If so, do that
If not, consider a powerline device
If that is not an option...then WiFi.

But if you can have an 'extender' plugged in to the PC location, why not just the PC?

Router-----------------------------------extender (wifi) PC
or
Router-------------------------------------------------------PC

I have the NETGEAR WN2000RPT-100UKS Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Picks up 2.4GhZ signal fine, occasionally drops signal (green light to amber/red every now and then) previously I was using the Netgear N900 with TalkTalk and that worked ok, but I can't get that to connect to Virgin, says its out of range (even tried it right beside the router)

Sorry, looking back on my posts, bit jumbled up!

Virgin Router is in living room, I want to get the best speed/signal in my bedroom (which, now that I think about it, is about 10-20 meters away) I'm using a WIRELESS Extender, by plugging the ethernet cable into my PC and Extender.

I was using the Netgear N900 when I was on TalkTalk and that worked ok, but now doesn't work with Virgin (upon looking at reviews on Amazon, it's not compatible).

Question is, could I some how improve signal/speed in my room, if I was to get a wireless PCI card for my PC, thus connecting my PC to the extender SSID (currently on router signal, which is 2.4GhZ, ideally want to get onto the 5GhZ signal, but extender isn't capable)

Sorry if it sounds stupid/pointless question, but it's been bugging me for days, one minute getting 3MB download speed, next can hardly open a webpage.

Solved, even though I haven't got the best signal, Fair - good, it's better than having the wireless extender, now using Network Wireless Card. On the 5GhZ frequency too (which no one in my household can get onto)

if your wireless card has removable antenna you can always upgrade the antenna to improve the signal if needed
