Using Xbox 360 HDD on computer

I have several old Xbox 360 hard drives that my dad got from his old job at a distributions facility. So I wondered if they could be used on a pc as a standard hard drive. I cracked one open and found a typical laptop hard drive made by Hitachi. So I took it and hooked it up to my motherboard. The motherboard had no problem seeing the hard drive in the bios however Windows 8 isn't seeing the hard drive.

I then tried using computer management from control panel. Sure enough it shows up there however I have no idea how to get it to format so that Windows can use it.

Can anyone help me out here?

From what I remember you have to "initialize" it in disk management.

Maybe something involving system images. But I don't really know how that would work, if it would work, or even how legal it is
