using xp compatible hard disk in windows

Hi guys.. I got a external hard disk (dell) 1 TB without seeing the specification properly that it is compatible with xp alone. I am using windows 7 and it is not at all getting detected as expected. . I tried seeing in device manager and where it does not appear as well.. could someone pls help me to resolve this issue. I want use this xp compatible hard disk in windows 7 as well ...

It technically lists.
Windows: XP SP3 (32-bit and 64-bit) and Above, Mac OS X 10.6 and Above

This is because USB 3.0 was not supported on earlier versions.

Now since you are not getting the drive to show up(I am also guessing you are not getting any detect sound?), can you please try the drive on a USB 2.0 port to be sure.

If it fails to work on USB 2.0, try another cable. USB 2.0 cables should work with the drive as well.

I am recommending this based on a VERY high number of reported issues with early USB 3.0 devices(most of them worked fine on USB 2.0 at least).
The model number may help. If the drive is 2.5 inch and does not use a power adapter, you may want to ensure you are using the back usb ports because the front ones to not always offer enough power to start the drive.

In general USB mass storage tends to work on most versions of Windows.

I have used "Windows XP" external drives with 7/8 without issues.
