Hello

I cannot get my usb/parallel bridge cable to work.

The printer receives and prints up to half a page then there is a message
from the printer icon on the status bar to say that the printing failed.
The printer stops and that's it!

I could understand one not 'seeing' the other, but why half a page?

I would appreciate your help.

Here is some help :

I had the same problem and all these so called HP instant care are useless as tits in a boar. I have a old printer laserjet4. The computer is HPG71-329WM with three USB ports. I went to microcenter and for $9.99 purchased a Pro USB parallel converter cable that is only 4 feet long. Never the less it works. Attach the parallel end to the printer. Turn it on. Attach the UBS end to any UBS port. Open Control Panel. Click on Device and printers. Click on add printers. Select UBS printer dedicated port. If your printer is not on the list , at the bottom of that window is a direction to let online
update the list it may take a couple of tries for this step till your printer appears on the list. Once it does just select the print and install it. Hp has a policy that they
want people to throw out the old printers and computers and buy new ones.

After you have finished installing or are in the process, you may need to update the driver. But in my case the one windows 7 selected works. I did a page test printing and it works. The only set back is that HP has jacked up the price of the print Cartridge to $113 . You may need to search and find a new source of some body private who refill these Print Cartridges.

Try Reinstalling and resetting that might help

Step-by-step guide for install USB-Parallel Bridge driver.
1. Download file for USB-Parallel Bridge from our site, save it on your computer and unzip.
2. Connect your USB-Parallel Bridge to computer.
3. Right click on My computer and click Properties. Go to Hardware tab. Click to Device Manager button.
4. Find your new USB-Parallel Bridge on usb category double click on device and press Reinstall Driver button.
5. Select Install from specific location, check Include this location and click Browse button to select the Prolificdriver click Next button to continue and click Finish button to finish installation.
6. After this procedure you should see new USB-Parallel Bridge in usb inside device manager.
