Well, it was a fun ride while it lasted, but now it is rare that I am
on a server for 5 minutes without encountering SpeedHack. It is as bad
as the worst days of CS cheats.

And instead of a fix, the new patch includes 'better Speedhack
detection'. Um, we want the hack gone, not detected.

Isn't speedhack only a problem for Onslaught? It's a pushing-vehicles-
around thing, isn't it? I've noticed no problems in my instagib DM games.

It's not just onslaught.
I have encountered it in DM and CTF games.
On some servers it makes the game almost unplayable. :-(

No, speed hacking is when someone runs faster on foot than people can in
vehicles.

Then visit our FAQ, go to the appropriate question, and send it to the
server's admin, asking them to fix it. A quick change of a single
setting on the server is all that is needed, but if you don't contact
the admin, he/she won't know about this nor fix it.

But the original poster doesn't want a simple fix, he wants to bitch
and moan. He wants to feel like he is in some position of power by
being the global voice that declares the game unplayable now. I'm
most thankful for his post, I play the game nightly without any
problems, so without his proclamation I would have been completely the
in the dark of how my fun is actually not occurring.

Its not like I connect to the same server every time, just whatever
map/ping is best.

Its not exactly convenient to connect to a server, find out its not
patched and someone is hacking, disconnect, write down the email
address of the server, and then alt-tab and fire up outlook to send an
email to the admin even though its not like hes going to get around to
it during my gaming session, meanwhile next time I connect I probably
wont even be on the same server.

A *much* better solution is an server auto-update feature which would
(at the very least) email the server admin when updates or patches are
available. Im just a player, I'm not the patch fairy.

Meltdown, is this supposed to be in the UT2004.ini
or the Default.ini?
I am asking because I do not have the TimeMarginSlack entry in my
UT2004.ini, but
do have it in the Default.ini.

This is true, but if everyone does it once in a while, all the server
admins will know and will correct the problem.

Likely, but then the servers nearest you are generally going to be pretty
close to you. They're not moving, so it's going to be the same group of
servers that you go back to over time. Stick the 'big' ones in your
favourites and go back to those...

This, however, is very true.

The first one. The Default.ini is only used to copy to UT2004.ini if it
ever goes missing. Or on the first run after installing it ;-)

Sure, but what is more inconvenient? Sending a few emails, or playing
with that "Speed hack detected" all the time?

That's true.

> Im just a player, I'm not the patch fairy.

You are the user of a server that someone made available for free. You
can also show your gratitude to the admin by sending that email and help
him/her fix the issue.

On our private server 3204 patch I finally had to set it to this. This
completely disables it.
MaxTimeMargin=0
Otherwise at the start of any new map Speed Hack Detected always popped
up and the annoying stuttering short lockup.
