UT99 Auto-Taunt Problem

Curious oddity that I am hoping someone has solved.

I do have the auto-taunt box checked, and when I am playing alone on my
computer it works just fine. However when I connect to my remote-hosted
server and play I do not hear the taunts. Other people have told me
that they do hear them, but I do not. Another player besides myself has
the same problem, but most people don't have the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure that you don't have 'No mature taunt' ticked or 'Play Voice
Messages' in Audio options set on the wrong thing. That's all that I can
think of.

I've got a vague and by no-means certain recollection that auto-taunts
was "tweaked" (read "broken") by some version of Pure. Maybe that?
