V-Sync under the fps' limit

Hey guys,
The question I have, since I'm about to get a 144hz monitor ( yee ) is:
If I have the monitor running at 144hz and a game, lets suppose, at 120fps, will the v-sync still eliminate the tearing?
I really like to have v-sync on because I hate screen tearing and it makes a lot of difference to me.
(GPU - GTX 1060OC and upcoming Monitor ASUS MG248QR)

I think it will work the same (I have a 60hz monitor and it still works when I get 50fps)
