Ok, so many years back I bought HalfLife (1) and even the first add on.
Getting the voucher with my 9800XT I dug out my old HL CD only to find it
had cracked, and so thought I'd take up the offer of the Valve power pack
,or what ever they call it, while I wait for HalfLife 2 be be released.

It turns out even if you order the powerpack on CD all you get is a CD that
connects you to Valves "Steam" system. You dont get the games at all, but
download them bit by bit as needed, and crucially *when their servers are
working*. I believe this is how our HalfLife2 is also to be delivered,
well, I gotta say having used the system *when it works* for the current
games Im so unimpressed that I think I'd rather buy the damn game than be
forced to use "Steam".

Anyone else got any comments on "Steam", I'd really like to know if it has
any fans at all!

Don't know what you're complaining about, i've never had any problems with
Steam and have used it since it first appeared.

The odd time it has been slow is when everyone is downloading a full game at
the same time but this is *very* rare, and there have been a few problems
with the "friends" network being down quite a lot, but thats it really.

My ISP limits me to 10gb a month and I don't want to waste it
downloading GB's of game data. Screw Steam, Valve have already lost me
as a customer due to Steam and HL2 isn't even out yet. And I'm not the
only one that thinks this way.
