more news of HL2.
1st of all:

valve sued vivendi, wtf, suing ur owner ?

<b>"Valve sued Vivendi for copyright infringement back in 2002 over their unauthorized distribution of our products to cyber cafes," Lombardi told GameSpot last Friday. "We later had to add breach of contract claims for, among other things, refusing to pay us royalties owed and delaying Condition Zero out of the holiday season."

That lawsuit became more complex when Sierra fought back with a counterclaim. "Almost a year and a half into the lawsuit," Lombardi continued, "Vivendi responded by making a number of claims in an attempt to invalidate our agreement and be awarded the ownership of the Half-Life intellectual property. We expect to prevail in this lawsuit."</b>

Sadly, I don't care about the court case.

I care about how it will affect the HL2 release date??

Because you care about the HL2 release date, by defacto you also care about the court case because it's rather naive to think the two are unrelated.

I'm not suggesting you are naive, just pointing out that saying you don't care about the court case is wrong. You do not care who's gonna win it, as long as the HL2 release date is not pushed back further, correct?

My guess is the whole falling out between ValvE and Vivendi is caused by Valve's steam initiative (even if it is not explicitly mentioned in the court papers, I'm not familiar with them) so to think that the game's release via steam is unaffected by this, is also naive. Vivendi is calling the shots in declaring the release candidate gold, so go figure.

Very sad if they're going to fight this over at our expense, it will not look good on both of them.

Cant they all just GET ALONG? Release the damn game and be done with it. Start working on Half Life 3

If you read the article it says that the fallout is because Vivendi published some HL copies without giving royalties to Valve, and also delayed CZ past the holiday season.

If valve looses, we get no HL2 via steam, or maybe HL2 will be the last via steam. Court trial is in march 2005, so if there is a legal battle, game might get delayed till then.

Yeah I realize that, was being sarcastic.

Just sucks though, I can see the game release being delayed for a while now.

Maybe both companies will realize, despite the court battle, it will be most profitable to release the game on time, rather than after the whole court battle is over (As slow as some of the legal stuff can be, HL2 might not be very cutting edge, if they wait for a year to release it.)

I've read up on those posts in the graphics card forum, cant read the hl2 forum link from here.

This thing about releasing in november and the lawsuit thing is not consistent with the preloading policy that valve is pursuing. If they really think people are going to let 3Gb of data taking up space for several months, then they're idiots. My guess is they still anticipate a timely release, at least via steam. Let's hope Valve will get their way on that.

If it does not work out, they could start a public betatest of the game for those that have already preordered and preloaded it via steam  Would be worth looking into the legal issues surrounding that option, if they want to keep the peace with the waiting fan base. I would also be happy with some new maps for the CS:Source beta to play with.
