Vanishing backup Toshiba dtd210

Accidentally pulled plug while backing up one big directory from computer to external HDD. Big directory on computer has vanished. I'm sure it's hiding somewhere, but I can't find it. Please help.

For some geek reason, I managed to find the directory (hopefully intact?) in the directory: MyKindleContent; which has absolutely nothing to do with where the big directory is located. How in the freaking world this big directory happened to land there is beyond me. I don't even use MyKindleContent for anything, and haven't for as long as I can remember. -a head scratcher for me for sure.

A bit unnerved. Compared the 2 folders, got different results. Why large change in "size on disk" on external HDD? Fatty2016 is external drive:

5.91GB
5.94GB size
15054 files in 524 folders

9/11/2017 Fatty2016 (external drive)
Big_09112017_v2
5.91 GB
8.82 GB size on disk
15054 files in 525 folders.
