Vapochill LS and qx9650

Hi everyone


I am running at the present time an Intel E6700 @2.66 default, to an overclocked 4.2ghz, with a Vapochill Ls cooler on the cpu. The system is stable. im at 1.65Vcore.

Will the Vapochill LS be able to handle a Intel Qx 9650 overclocked to maybe, lets say, 4.9 to 5ghz? and at 1.65 vcore?

So far i read that , it would be to much for the Vapochill LS to handle, knowing that the vapochill
is made for nothing more than only 200watts of heat dissipation.

any thoughts on this?

How many watts will a QX 9650 produce, if im reaching for 4.8 ghz and up, in overclocking?

First let me just say. YOU ARE INSANE! At overclocking. Second I don't know guess you'll have experiement.

Check out http://www.madshrimps.be they have some insane OC numbers, as well as the means by which they were obtained. Very cool (I mean that literally as well as figuratively) OC, wow.

Looks like my Vapochill LS probably wont be able to handle it.
Im gonna need a Cascade Phase change, or MOD my LS to get lower tempatures.

Well, the question you were asking is actually my setup! And yes, the Vapochill LS indeed works with the QX9650 at around 5Ghz. (In fact it runs cooler than the QX6850 at 4.33Ghz I had in there previously) Currently I and others have found a CPU wall at 5Ghz and it will take cascade or liquid nitrogen to get past 5Ghz. Right now I am running a 4895Mhz (445 x 11) @ 1.575v (actual reading). I have the setpoint in the BIOS at 1.6v, but it reads as 1.575v.

The only thing that concerns me is that I have talked to a couple of people including some at anandtech.com and they tell me they would not be comfortable running a 45nm Penryn for long term use with any voltages above 1.5v with a Vapochill. I dunno though, I am kind of torn between getting a stable overclock of 4.5Ghz @ 1.45v (actual) and being satisfied or continuing to run my setup at the 4895Mhz (445 x 11) as I have above??? Thoughts?

The ASUS Maximus Extreme is a great motherboard and I have been able to reach a stable 475mhz FSB. Maybe a (475 x 10) would be a good compromise???
