Vapor-X 4890 vs GTX 275.

Building a new high end rig but I want to hold off on the new card line up coming out from both ATI and Nvidia so I will get a lower end card to hold me over until 1)new cards are out and 2)price drops a little on them.

I am using a EVGA classified motherboard in the build which means I can't crossfire but since this is only a tie over card that doesn't really matter at the moment as I will only use one.

Now I can get a Vapor-X HD 4890 1GB for around $200 which is a bit cheaper then the 275 1.7 GB model and as far as I see from reviews and from word of mouth the cards trade off on who is better depending on the game you are playing and at what res.

As a side note I am an nvidia fanboy but I personally find nothing wrong with ATI, they offer good cards at cheaper prices (though they usually perform a bit less).

I am looking at having this card for about 5 months.

Well while not exactly a Fan boy i personally prefer AMD/ATI cards, While the 275 is probably the best bang for buck card out there at the moment I would suggest putting the 4890 in the machine as its only for 5 months and that way you can see what you think to what they are offering at the minuite. You never know it might help you choose when the new cards come out.

yeah I was thinking the same thing as I am leaning towards the ATI 5000 cards when they come out. Even though no info has been released about them I already know they will likely be cheaper and drop in price faster. Also I loved what they did with the 4000 line up.

Thanks. I had looked at them but I really like the Vapor-X cooler and I am not reselling, when I get the next card this one will be moving or to my girlfriend's computer. (I am building her a new mid range computer because her imac is dying.)

I really wish they had a life time on the Vapor-X though, it rather sucks compared to other companies such as XFX and EVGA. Also been told by a few people their customer service isn't all that great as well.

That is not true, I have a buddy in Japan that only buys XFX (Ati) or BFG (Nvidia) and he has never had an issue with the warranty (RMA)....

With XFX you can sell the card to someone else and the card is still covered....

IMO as far as Ati goes XFX is on Top regardless of what other Sapphire and HIS fanboys say.....

The reviews speak for themselves.......

Well this is common sense, if you buy the card from XFX (North America) of course the warranty will only cover "North America".... Once you purchase an XFX card off seas you get the exact same warranty for that region....

Mactronix, maybe I didnt explain myself correctly on my last post. Here in North America we automatically get a lifetime warranty with XFX. In Japan, Spain, United Kingdom, Russia, etc.... You get a 1-2 or 3 year warranty depending on the region and you can always upgrade to lifetime warranty for an additional fee, just like EVGA does here in the states and overseas..... I apologize for not being clear on my last posts....

You know i'd say the 4890 because all the pc's ive had were ATI cards and i get outstanding performance besides ATI will make a better card then NVIDIA anyday.... i hope...

I think I will go with the ATI simply because I can get a good overclock out of that Vapor-X cooler and I don't want to support nvidia until they learn to lower their prices when there is something just as good for far cheaper.

The 4890 is actually the best bang for the buck, several sites have proven this performance/price ratio. The 275 can sometimes be more powerful, depending on OC levels. While many sites OC the 4890 and show improved results, they usually do not crank it anywhere near its potential (1 Ghz core or as close as you can get). However the 275 is more expensive.

The vapor-x cooler is quite nice from the reviews i have read on this card, i was just looking at it for purchase too actually. Its a lot quieter than a 4870 at high fan speeds and runs cooler as well. If my 4870 didn't already play every game i throw at it with excellent performance i'd probably convince myself to get the vapor-x or similar 4890.

Yes after rethinking on it I can't see a reason to go with the 275 at all. The price is higher, it doesn't overclock quiet as well, and it doesn't cool as well.

It is to bad I am limited to only one card or less I would get two 4870 Vapor-X. However with the EVGA motherboard I can't crossfire.....crap.

What I really wish I could get my hands on is a Atomic 4890 which are clocked at a 1 GHz.

I have compared them but I prefer the cooler on the vapor and while I like XFX as a company and warranty better I have kind of settled on the vapor for the cooler and the overall look and since I am putting this in my girlfriends computer once I move on the cooler look of this card will be nice for her.
