Ok, my variant based on V is almost ready for testers.

I don't know what to call it. Any ideas?

Changing the version string causes the game to crash, even though I also updated
the files in lib/edit ... why?

Without knowing what the variant is like, not much of a chance we can
help you.

In that case, hows about crashband?
Or is that too much like the name of an off-the-shelf game....

Ok, the error message it gives is: "broken savefile"

I erased all savefiles, ran it again, quit, and now it does it again.

Changing the version name doesn't do this, only the version numbers.

Well what are your aims for the game? what are your intentions? It seems from
the changelist you are looking to mainly rebalance the game with very few
gameplay or thematic changes.

How about Alterband or Balanceband or Notquitevanillaband or Custardband or
something.

First I'm working on the weaker races, classes, objects, etc. I want choices to be
based more on playing style rather than any one combination being clearly
better. Later I'll edit the monster list, maybe work on rooms and eventually
AIs...

Yes, I think you've about got it. The biggest change by far is the damage bonus
scaled to base dice, other than that I'm just doing little tweaks here and
there. One of the names I considered was Tweakband, but Alterband sounds
better. That would be [alter] on rgra.

Anyone else like Alterband as a name for this one?

I can just see the subject lines...

[Notquitevanilla001] Shorter name?

[Custard001] Dungeon invaded by apple crumble

[Balance] No, this isn't a suggestion on how to balance Vanilla

Why don't we get out Cuddlyband or Operating System Angband while
we're at it? :->
