I have a 2600+ @ stock on a MSI K7N2 Delta-L. I've seen my vcore drop as low as 1.62, I have it set for 1.65 in bios. Is there any way I can get this to be more stable?

does the vcore stay pretty much stable at 1.63v? if so its not common for boards to over or under volt, as long as the vcore is stable then you should be ok. Increasing the vcore by .025v in the bios should bring you to about 1.65v.

If your Vcore voltage is fluctuating it could be a whole other story, but i wont get into that without being sure the vcore is indead wavering around.

What psu are you using?

Are the voltages stable? Is the 12v abnormally low?

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a processor

how about mine? mine isi the reverse, it stays pretty constant at 1.7V, and i have no way to decrease it..why is that? is it bad for my cpu?

sounds like an asus motherboard...

The only solution i can think of is doing a vid mod to decrease the vcore...this would require modifications to the pins, im not sure if there is a bridge mod to acomplish this.

I think that should be well within AMDs voltage regulator overshoot specs...and even if it wasnt, i dont see any problem running the cpu at 1.7v. Your motherboard manufacturer (which I assume is asus because asus is known to do this) has decided that the motherboard will seem more stable by overvolting the cpu by a small amount.

yeah it fluctuates, there have been a few times I've seen it at 1.66, but also as low as 1.62. I have an antec smartblue 350watt psu, and all my rails are within 5%.

Your numbers are within spec. If the chip is running cool enough raise the vcore to 1.675, to keep you away from the bottom end.
Just because the posh that passes for a voltmeter on your board says a thing, does not make it so. There are a number of things that affect the readings. Dont sweat it.

If you increase the Vcore, be sure that the CPU can take any voltage bellow 1.8V.
NEVER REACH 1.8V!!!!1.775 is still OK.

There's nothing inherently wrong with 1.8V. it's at the high-end for Air cooling, but with a decent cooler it's not instant death or anything.

Granted if you're running at stock speeds on a t-bred or barton core Athlon XP then you don't need 1.7V, let alone 1.8, but for overclocking higher voltage can help.

Maybe worthwhile to d/l Motherboard Monitor 5 (MBM5) to cross check the vcore in case your mobo is not accuratley reflecting the true vcore.

I can concur with that. ASUS boards dont have stable vcores and are never where you WANT it

Good thing I have water cooling :D

And MBM5 is what's telling me my vcore is fluctuating.

too bad it's not an Asus' mobo..
it's a Gigabyte GA-7N400L
I leave everything at default setting, and it stays always at 1.70V (sometimes 1.71, 1.69..)

That's what I thought too..and since i have no stability issue, I just leave it like that, i've just been wondering if it would be bad for my processor
Same thing happens to my RAM, which is supposed to be 2.5V, but it always stays at about 2.6V
also, I've heard those bad capacitors problems..i've never experienced it..but i dun think it's mine?

i got my AMD Athlon(tm)xp 1700+ @ x12, fsb 133, core v. 1.825 = 1900+ @ 1.6mhz. Seems fine with stock sink and fan that came with it, temp is at 49-50 C. wonder if the 1.825 is over kill then and should i get better cooling, let me know.

your fluctuations are not anything crazy, they are within the +/- 10% that most manufacturers spec for, and are well within amd's overshoot/undershoot specs. Although you are using a smart power psu, which although will get the job done admirably is not necissarly known to be the most solid powersupply which could be the cause of the fluctuations. But in the end it is just a shortcomming of your boards VRM.

So basically in the end dont sweat it, if you are freaking out and feel you MUST stop the voltage fluctuation then i would look at a new powersupply...something along the lines of a fortron 350 or 400 watter, but even this is not guaranteed to solve your problem.

my RAM is Crucial with Micron chip, PC2700...it runs at 2.5V with my previous motherboard, now runs at 2.6V with this nForce2 mobo
but then again, since i have no system instability..I just leave it :smile:

do you have sth called "cpu halt command detection" in ur bios? i had that with my previous motherboard, when it's enabled, the voltage will be fluctuating
that command makes cpu runs cooler by about 4~5C (In my case)

ya a few mobos overvolt ram by default to increase stablity...especialy nforce 2 and 865/75 chipsets...cause they push memory pretty hard.
