Vdsl to ewan

I have an ee brightbox2 with a vdsl connection to it, I also have a Bipac Billion 7800VDOX Dual band ADSL2+ Router which has an ordinary DSL Port and an (EWAN) port plus 3 Gigabit ethernet ports on the back.
I want to just use the Bipac router on its own but can't figure how to do it, I've used a normal dsl rj11 to wan rj45 cable from my bt box that has the adsl filter out of it but that didn't work does there need to be a converter or similar to enable it to work or is there more to it than I think.

You cannot use an ADSL modem/router as a different type of device such as a switch or access point. Just buy what you actually need and try to sell the old device to someone who can use it as an ADSL device.
