Hi guys. Thanks in advance for any help. I really appreciate it.

So, we are currently in the process of switching ISP here in the Isle of Man with the aim of upgrading our internet connection from an advertised 16mbps connection to a 40mbps.

When joining the new ISP I was given the option of being provided with a router for a fee of £89, which i was not willing to pay as we live in a large house and I would much rather buy the router myself. The only thing I was told was that: "You will also require a VDSL2 compatible router which you can source yourself "

A few hours later I have purchased the Linksys EA6900 as I managed to get one for around £75. It is the one seen here: http://www.linksys.com/gb/p/P-EA6900/

Will I need to buy a vdsl2 modem to run alongside this router?

Was this router an okay choice or should I ask for a refund and go elsewhere? I wanted 802.11ac wifi as a must and also plenty of room for future internet speed upgrades.

Thanks very much for any help.

Solution
Yes you will need a vdsl2 modem.
You could refund it and get an all-in-one vdsl2 router such as ASUS DSL AC68U or Billion 8800AXL or a DrayTek Vigor 2860ac .

Thanks for the help. Which would be the best option in your opinion for a large house with stone walls? Also looking at the £100 mark maximum. Thanks again.
