The new Athlon 64 on Venice core also boast enhanced memory controller. Besides a slight performance improvement, Athlon 64 became more tolerant to various DIMM module configurations. Venice based CPUs have finally learned to work with four double-side memory modules supporting 400MHz.

But the most important advantage of the Athlon 64 processors based on Venice core is the significantly higher frequency potential. This opened new horizons for further AMD processor family development, at the same time giving overclockers got new opportunities for building high-performance systems on the far not the most expensive processors.

As for the drawbacks of the new Venice core, there are hardly any. In other words, if you are planning to buy a Socket 939 CPU, then you definitely have to go for the new core. That’s for sure."
There seem to be some nice clock/clock improvements over winchester and it seems this chip likes to clock high. The 3800+ venice is often faster than the 4000+claw(which has 512KB more L2). I can smell the FX57 around the corner and i might have to get one:)

I won. By posting 2 minutes prior to you I outbenched you in Quantitative processing speed of >=0.3% (+/- 0.0013%)

I emailed ZZF and Newegg a few hours ago asking when they are shipping these out. I just returned a 3200 Winchester back to CompUsa becuase was not so happy with It's overclock. Max stability was ~2.23. Given what I've read about ZZF, who is supposedly selling Fx53/4000 rejects as Clawhammer/NewCastle 3500's I'm taking a gamble between waiting for the Venice 3500 and buying one of those Clawhammers/Newcastles.

I doubt that he would be very thrilled to know that you said that in an open forum though.

How much is this CPU going to cost?

You forget how ignorant I am about AMD. I still dont have a clue

Looks like the venice core is the best chip for you to learn on. Get one of the DFI nforce4 boards, and go to town. Wait a month though, for the production to stabilize.

i just realized how much more crap this is going to cause with oems, allowing you to customize which cpu u want in your new system. with almost 3 options at each speed grade, oems can cheat those wanting a venice by simply not saying which kind of core their "3500+" is. and you know, whether AMD condones it or not, the venices will be more expensive than the other two types at that speed grade, just like the 3500+ winnies were. just asking for trouble. oh well, just more incentive for people to build their own rigs. self-sufficiency of the market. his will be done.

Perhaps you are not aware that this has been going on since the beginning of PCs with processor core revisions, motherboard revisions, any hardware revisions? Like always, if you want a black box, buy a prebuilt OEM kit. If you want any real control of what hardware is in your PC, then build it yourself.

I'd hardly call it 'cheating', and it's certainly not going to cause any new level of 'crap' with anybody, because this is the way that it has always been.

Erm...uh, hmm, ack...Quote from same article:

AMD engineers promised to eliminate this problem in the new Venice core and they did keep their word. Athlon 64 processors based on Venice can work with four single-side DDR400 SDRAM modules without any limitations, and if there are double-side DDR400 SDRAM DIMMs installed, they can work at 400MHz with 2T timing.
-So ah who has 1 sided ddr400 dimms?
Expanded
-Who has 1 sided ddr400 dimms 512 and over?
------
And off the subject...kinda...ok yea off the subject...
Are we limited by the motherboards to 4gb? Or by the CPU? [assumed running ms xp 64]...Or, should i just ignore what i've seen so far on the 64bit motherboard capabilities sections?

Current machines running F@H:
AMD: [64 3500+][64 3000+][2500+][2000+][1.3x2][366]
Intel: [X 3.0x3][P4 3.0x2][P4 2.4x5][P4 1.4]
