Now, I'm not going to go into details here like where I work or anything but I need to vent this.. because it is really p1ss1ng me off. I realize this is a bit off topic but hey in a way it IS bad support 😉
OK so, I have this Project manager, who is leading up the implentation of Windows 2000 in our corporation. THis entails mainly upgrading all of our Pentium I, II systems upto dell PIII's @ 733. These are just some snipets.
... earlier today we (the techs) informed the PO of a problem with a customer uggrade, he had a ISA SCSI card for his Zip drive. we told the PO if we were not to give him a tower he would need an external drive. she agreed soon after the customer found his way down to us and we started discussing the situation... during the converstation it came up that he was already getting a tower instead of a desktop, so I stated that we should go ahead and get the IDE Internal Zip. to which she replied "No, were going USB because it is faster." I disagreed but realized there was no point and said "ok" and walked away. Later I looked at the technical specs and obviously the IDE version is 2x as fast as the USB.
Another situation we use the Dell GX110 standard and for the heavier "power users" use the Dell Precision 420 w/ SCSI etc and she was having a converstation with me and another tech about how she had been installing 30 gig SCSI drives into GX110's at her last job, to which I replied that she must be talking about the 420's since the GX110's dont have on board SCSI, and she replied "no no I'm POSITIVE they were GX110's w/ built in SCSI." and I just decided to leave it at that as well.
We also had a quiet fasinating discussion on how Dell and HP use proprietary PC100 memory even though their documentation states otherwise. She just doesn't listen when I try to explain things to her. maybe it's because I am so much younger than everyone else (closest person is like 7 years older than me) but In anycase I feel better having gotten this off my chest.. PHEW.
