Pitch, derived from the US sport of baseball.

The pitcher throws the ball at the batter, and see if he likes it enough to take a swing.

I might pitch a software solution to the customer, and see if they like what I say and how I can deliver it.

Tailor - To adjust the pitch or presentation to their specific needs and desires.
If I was tailoring a presentation for an aircraft company like Boeing, I would not use terms from watercraft.

Or job hunting.
I would not send the exact same resume and cover letter to all potential employers. I would tailor that cover letter for each one, including terms specific to their company.

Vertical - Their particular environment, from bottom to top.
For instance, Instagram....I would not talk to them about building cars, when their vertical environment is servers, database, users.
