basically when i plug in my hardrive (external) it restarts my computer (if computer is already running ) then after it boots for about 10 seconds it shuts down completely, i have tried retrieving a new cable to plug it in with but the same thing happens. But sometimes it does work, like one night it worked and then i was able to use it and occasionally it would disconnect and immediately reconnect, i am not sure what the issue is, i have reformatted it once when it connected but the next day the same thing happened, just last night it worked and then the next day after school i turned on my computer and after 10 seconds it shut down, if anyone has a solution to this problem please help me, even if it is only temporary so i can transfer the items on the hardrive to another hardrive

If the Verbatim drive relies entirely on the USB port for power, that could be the problem as it would cause continuous connect/disconnect if there's insufficient power available - - the total voltage allowed through a computers USB ports is very small so with several USB devices plugged in, that limit can easily be reached.

If that is the cause, you can get around it by buying a Mains-powered USB Hub and plugging portable hard drives in to that:

What kind of PSU do you have?
