Verbatim HDD 500 GB format type ????

Hello everyone !! I have this problem : i have a HDD VERBATIM 500 GB that at a certain point every time i inserted in the pc i was asking me to format end when i try to format errors came up , so i sow some thread here and after a few trys a managed some how to make it run again.
but when it asked me to format is the only 2 formats existing wor NTFS and EXFAT!!
MY QUESTION IS THIS HARD DISK SHOULD BE A fat32 FORMAT RIGHT?or should i leave it an NTFS format?
