Shopping around for components to build a new system. Found a good looking all aluminum case at Newegg, its a Lian-Li Model PC-7, it allows for 5 internal 3.5's mounted vertically. Does this create any additional stress/wear on the HDD's versus a horizontal intallation?

It doesn't make any difference. I have the Lian-Li PC-68 with 3 HDDs mounted that way since Nov. last year.
They work fine. I have never heard of any problems in mounting positions.

Many OEM and microATX machines have drives mounted vertically, and slanted in some cases. Ive seen alot mounted upside down too. Drives work in any position =)

Jesus saves, but Mario scores!!!

It's perfectly fine.

it doesnt matter how they are mounted as long as they dont vibrate and get enough cooling. i rigged my friends dell computer which only had 1 hd bay to take two hardrives by using parts from an old erector set to tie both hardrives together. been working fine for over 6 months now.
