Our static IP DSL provider is discontinuing service in June. We have dynamic IP Verizon FiOS as well. Our workgroup (static IPs) LAN sits behind a SonicWall. I would like to connect the SonicWall to the Verizon FiOS router but it does not have a static IP to specify as the "SonicWALL WAN IP (NAT Public) Address". Can I specify the FiOS (dynamic) public IP address? How often does the FiOS dynamic lease expire? Does the lease re-establish as the same IP? Thanks.

configuring the sonicwall to use use a dynamic IP as static is not a good idea.

better option is to configure your Sonicwall's WAN port to obtain IP from DHCP. you will be double NATing in this case.

best option is to configure the Verizon router(modem) in bridge mode and have the sonicwall establish the connection.

Just to clarify, you are suggesting using the 'NAT with DHCP Client' mode on the SonicWALL SOHO3?.

network -> interfaces -> WAN -> mode / IP Assignment -> DHCP

Sorry, a bit cryptic. Are you suggesting I use the FiOS router to supply DHCP to the SonicWALL? I don't need to pass HDCP through to the LAN since all machines and appliances are on static IPs. Thanks.

correct: use the FiOS router to supply DHCP to the SonicWALL

or best option: call verizon, tell them that you have a sonicwall and would like to put the modem in bridge mode.

Maybe it is easier to explain word-graphically.

ONT is in basement, linked to G1100 on Floor 1 via coax.

G1100 serves DHCP to wireless clients on Floors 1 and 2 , but is remote from the area on Floor 3 with wired LAN.

Floor 3 area with wired LAN subnet (presently connected to DSL) also has a few FiOS clients served via a 5GHz pt-pt wireless bridge/ link and a multi-port gigabyte switch. Those few Floor 3 clients get DHCP from the G1100

Present DSL Wired LAN is a 192.168.168.XXX subnet, all static IPs.

FiOS home network is a 192.168.1.XXX subnet, most dynamic IPs .

I am trying to place the SonicWALL between the Floor 3 gigabyte switch (served DHCP by the 5Ghz pt-pt link) and the Floor 3 wired LAN, thereby replacing the DSL broadband link with FiOS.

I have added the SonicWALL as a fixed DHCP lease (192.168.1.255) on the G1100 routing table.

FiOS gateway IP is 74.108.XXX.1, G1100 dynamic IP is 74.108.XXX.229

When I set the SonicWALL to DHCP Client mode, do I set its IP as 192.168.1.255? What do I use for gateway IP? WHat else am I missing?

Thanks.
