Vertical lines on monitor even when not connected to system unit

I recently have a problem of my 2nd monitor having vertical lines as seen in the pictures below. It happened randomly as I was watching youtube.

Even when not connected to my system unit, it still displays vertical lines.

I have had this problem before and fixed it but I do not know if it also did the same even when it wasn't connected. I also forgot how I fixed it in the first place. I tried reinstalling and installing drivers, I tried replacing cables but to no avail. Is there any other way around other than to replace it? it is still relatively new (around a year or so) so I hope that I can fix it. the model is the Asus VC239H

Obviously drivers aren't going to help you at this point. This is an issue with the monitor and the monitor only.

...and without opening the monitor up....I don't see much you can do other than give it a smack....which is what I would do (seriously).
