Question vertical monitor

hello I would like to set up a vertical monitor but have no clue if you can do it with any monitor or need one that can preform the rotation I'm using now a onn 32' display filliped in portrait while that sort of works my desktop is small leaving black borders on the top and bottom and iv seen photos of a vertical setup where the full screen is used and thats what I want any info would be great thanks

rotation as in physically turning the screen 90°
or software that can turn the screenspace to the opposite resolution; 1920x1080 vs 1080x1920?

any good VESA monitor arm should allow rotating.
and graphics card control software(Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Adrenaline) allows for screenspace rotation.

i rotated the screen 90 degrees with out any VESA monitor arm its not on any stand at all just sitting on my desk i used windows display options to set it in portrait it dose work however its just it dosent use the full scrren would i need to set it to 1080x1920?
