Hello ,
I have bought a new Laptop lately which runs windows 10 , so far i have only had experience with win7 and xp so im kinda new into windows 10 .
I have been worried because of a problem i'm getting lately , not sure if its a problem or im worrying about nothing actually , but sometimes my disk usage gets very high on task manager display .
Usually at startup it does go on 100% for a minute or so but I was told that was normal , however after that it has its own spikes where it goes as high as 100% but what worries me its that there are very few processes running and their mb/s is really low , like it can go up to 5mb/s total .
This usually happens when I start a new process/run an app , it goes high but the total of the processes barely reaches 5-10mb/s total .
Below is a picture .

Is this normal or I should do something to fix it .
Thank You

AntiMalware Service Executable' is some WIndows Defender action in the background, which will also necessarily be causing quite a bit of disk activity...

As most spinning disk drives are as slow as sap, you are likely to see spikes of disk activity always, as the computer is nearly always waiting on it... for something.

DO yourself a favor, and get an SSD at some point...(Cruicial MX500/Samsung 860 EVO)

You'll thank yourself later.

(Windows will also stay quite busy for the first several hours or even days of a new laptop's life downloading updates in the background, as well)

Well its been around a month , and I don't think its cause of the updates , also in most cases the disk usage goes up to 90-100 percent with just one program running and just refuses to drop below that . I've disabled superfetch , disabled windows search , did the registry edit for msisupport point and still keeps getting very high disk usage with few processes running and one app or two at max .The hard-drive i currently have is really low , could that be the cause of the problem ? It's 320GB but most of it its free .

On another note , someone suggested that I download the Intel IRST driver and install it since i might be still running Mirosoft Ahci driver , also they suggested that i do a full diskcheck in case there are any problems with the disk . Would you recommend me do any of those ?

The current disk i have in use is Hitachi , 7200rpm , sata 3.0GB/s
And i think it should be able to handle this much without going beyond 50% instead it stays on 100-90% all the time

What the heck is "Modern Setup Host"?

Certainly if you have something causing lots of disk reads/writes within Windows, it will stay busy, especially if it is an older drive with a small write cache...

You can try running a GsmartControl /2 min short test. and, see if it passes, and, if there are any drive errors to be concerned with....

Or, get a new drive, relegating your current drive to cold/warm storage duties....

If it's a glitched/botched application, then a quick format/fresh reinstall will solve it.

Are not most 320 GB drives likely 10 years old or so?

A Samsung 850 EVO or Corsair MX500 would be 10 times faster. :)

The problem here is that it's only taking 5mb/s , ive had apps take as much as 25 mb/s and still the disk was at around 50% at that time , which leads me to believe this is either a bug or something is definitely wrong here .
Things are working better after I did the last windows update but still i get a lot of disk usage with just one application running .
